The Minneapolis Half is coming up this Sunday. I’m excited about it because Mike is running the full, our son is running the half, and we have lots of friends who will be running in each race. No matter what race day brings as far as finishing time, it’s sure to be fun to see everyone and cheer for all of the marathoners after I’m done with my race.
I felt like I ran pretty well at the Minnetonka Half, and after that race I was hoping that I could improve on that time a little bit at this race. Now I’m not so sure. It’s been fairly warm here the last few weeks and I just wither in the heat. I’ve had trouble slogging through some of my longer runs with my heart rate out of control in the heat. Even if it’s cool on race day, I feel like I’m not as prepared because I had to slow down so much on so many training runs. I’m predicting that I’ll be a little slower if the weather is good and a lot slower if it’s hot.
Feeling like I’m going to have mediocre race but still being excited about it is a little strange. I’m also excited because after this race I’m going to take several days off from running, and then take 4 to 6 weeks to concentrate on triathlon training. I have a few sprint races this summer and need to dedicate more time to swimming and biking to get ready. When it’s time to return my focus to running in the middle or endĀ of July, I hope to be mentally and physically recharged and ready to marathon train. It’s not that I feel tired of running right now, I’m just excited about a change of activity for a little while.
Good luck to everyone else running this weekend. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we will have a one day return to cool spring weather, and then on Monday I hope we return to summer!

Have a fun race, I hope it stays nice and cool for you(until Monday, that is!).
Hope it is a nice day for you! I’ll be thinking of you as I run on Saturday. Hmmm, “run” might be a bit of a stretch. I’ll see what I can do that day.
GOOD LUCK!!!!! You never know what race day will bring
I am so excited for you! You will have a great race, I know you will! By the way, the conversation you and I had about coaches when we were at the seminiar at Gear West a month or so back….so true. So very, very true. Found a new one though who so far, is awesome. He even schedules in Yoga and foam rolling…I mean how awesome is that? Hope Mike is doing well with his training too! See you soon!
Hi Beth,
Where are you going to be on Sunday? Are you working at a water stop or something else? I will try to look for you and hopefully we will have a minute to chat:) I am planning on watching the marathon runners finish after I am done. Good luck to Mike and your son. I am sure that Mike is going to do awesome:) I am also expecting your son to leave me in the dust! I am keeping my fingers crossed for a cool race day too.
It has been so hot lately and it has been hard to run normal. All of my runs have been at a slower pace:( I am going to have to start getting up early and running when it is cooler.
I will look for you on Sunday Beth. Enjoy the rest of your week!
Good luck with the half on Sunday! Keeping my fingers crossed for nice weather for you.
Good Luck in the half. Keep hydrated now! That is the key in warm or hot weather.
By the way, Fargo was a great marathon.
