The snow is almost gone and pretty soon it’s going to be time to take my new bike out on the roads. Just like running in the cold, it takes a lot of special clothes and gear to bike in the cold. Until the thermometer says 60 degrees, I think I’ll stay inside. I’m guessing that gives me a couple more weeks of enjoying watching TV while I ride and keeping my bike nice and clean. A brick workout was on the schedule for Sunday. Here I am on the bike:
Here I am loading up Disc 3 of the last season of Lost. It’s going to be over soon! The cold weather needs to stick around long enough for me to find out how it ends. Thanks to some great suggestions as to what to watch when Lost is over, I think I’ll be happy on the trainer for a while longer.
It was a nice day so I was able to do the short run outside. With two workouts on most days, the 45 minute bike ride followed by the 2 mile run made for a short workout. That left plenty of time for yard work and getting ready for spring.
Running is going well and I’m feeling ready for my upcoming half marathons. Unlike my triathlon schedule, my approach to training for the half marathons is pretty simplistic: one day of speed work, one 10 mile long run, and one or two other shorter runs each week. I’ve been doing my swim workouts after the runs and that seems to work out pretty well. That leaves weight lifting and biking on the other days. With 17 weeks of training left to go, I’m sure I’ll have to make changes and adjustments as the schedule gets more intense.
You can’t really see it in the first picture, but I’m wearing my BodyMedia Armband on my calf. Normally it goes on the arm, but the leg works better for riding. Now that I’ve been wearing it for a while, I’ll write about it next post. It’s changed the way I think about eating and moving. I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Those first few outdoor bike rides always feels so cold. I’m shooting for Thursday after work if it warms up a little (and the winds die down!).
I wish I’d have done the indoor trainer thing this winter. Can’t wait to hear about your new toy!
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the eating! I’ve been really questioning my diet lately…
your “bike trail” looks very safe, warm and entertaining. No wonder my husband wants a trainer!! He has not excuse though because spring IS here and we just need to be outside!
Your training sounds like it’s keeping you busy, I’m hearing HAPPINESS in your voice(well, words).
Thanks for you consistent encouragement!!
That running training is perfectly OK for a half marathon. You’ll be very good to go.
Yard work is my nemesis. Like the sword of Damoclse hanging over my head…
Yeah, it feels even colder on a bike when it’s cold – in the breeze. Looks like a great workout set-up – everything you need close by, especially water.
To think that I could plow through all seasons of Dexter while exercising on a trainer has me seriously considering getting one of these things.
Great job with your training. I assume you will be able to be back in the pool soon.
The weather is suppose to be pretty warm this weekend – my plan is to run 8-10 miles and then get my bike outside and take the first ride. I can’t wait.
Hope you get to enjoy the warmer temps.
I hope you were able to get some this past week, Beth. Wednesday through Friday were some absolutely gorgeous days! We deserve a break after this long winter. Keep up the excellent work with your training!
I’m glad you found me Beth
I totally understand about delaying taking the bike off the trainer…I kind of liked being able to watch tv while I pedaled. However, since I can’t run, again, I wanted to get outside and the weather is in the high 50’s low 60’s these days and sunny…fine for the bike (especially for Québec).
Sounds like you are doing amazing on your workouts…and I’m sure you’ll be more than ready for the half-marathons.
Your running plan sounds perfect. In this last period I had some problems on my neck and back, the phisyo said that I have to swim after the workouts. I followed that advice and now I feel better.
