The snow is finally melting here and the grass is taking over. The days are getting longer, and even though there is still ice on the lakes and there are piles of snow taller than me, it’s hard not to think about spring and get excited about training. Lot’s of things have stayed the same, like my wonderful human training partners and my canine pal. Here I am with Scout after he just finished his first 5 mile run.
Running is going well and I’m getting the miles in for my three half marathons in April and May. Adding biking to the training schedule is good but challenging. So far my legs don’t feel too tired, but it’s only week 2 of half iron training. One thing that is different is that I’m spending all of my bike time on my new tri bike. Riding in the aero position is really comfortable on the trainer and I hope it translates to being on the road. I’m also working to get used to my bike saddle. Here is what it looks like:
The seat is really comfortable when I’m riding down on the aero bars, but really hurts when I sit up. All of the reviews I’ve seen seen say that it takes a couple of weeks to get used to the seat but then it is really comfortable. I’m glad I started bike training early so that I have a chance to get my bike tweaked before I have to do any really long rides on it. So far the longest bike workout has been an hour and a half which has been tolerable. I had my first brick of the season this week and I was weirdly excited about that. Brick workouts are something I would never do if I wasn’t preparing for a race. This was the first time doing a brick with my tri bike instead of my road bike. Running was definitely easier off of the tri bike. The workout was pretty short with only 45 minutes on the bike and then a 15 minute run, so it will be interesting to see if I feel the same way when the workouts get longer. Right now, though, I’m encouraged that the tri bike is going to make running a little easier.
Tomorrow will be my first day back in the pool in a few weeks and I also need to fit in an hour on the trainer and some weight lifting. Fitting in multiple workouts in one day is tough and right now they aren’t very long. It’s going to get interesting when the workouts get longer!

3 – 1/2’s?! That’s awesome! You’ll do great! So glad you are able to get back to it now, especially in time for nicer weather.
Hi there!
Nice job for getting back in the pool. I’m in the same boat. My first week back after a 1.5 mo hiatus!
And yeah for aero positioning on the bike. If you’re feeling comfortable w/it now, you’re stoked
happy friday!
You look great!!! I am thinking of getting a new saddle and yours looks like it might help. Happy training
That lil dog can go 5 miles? What’s up with my lazy dog then? Time to get her training.
WOW! You are one dedicated women! HAVE FUN! Just remember to enjoy yourself.
I am planning my first duathlon this summer – but no tri’s for me – I would have to spend soooooo much time in the pool!
ENJOY each and every run and ride and swim!
Great job, Beth! I am glad to hear your training is going so well. Keep up the awesome work!
And, good job, Scout! Obviously Scout is a great training partner!
You’re teaching me a lot about these tri’s. I can’t imagine having to do multiple workouts in a day but I guess your body just keeps getting more fit! Speaking of fit, you look awesome and Scout is looking pretty buff as well. Hey, does he always tip his head to the side for photographs??!! Too cute!
Have you taken a picture of your new tri bike?? I’d love to see it!!
I am very glad that you now are fully involved into the tri training; you and your pal look in perfect shape ready for great adventures!
Haven’t been blogging or following blogs for a while… but we haven’t stopped sending our best wishes.
Good to hear from you.
Happy running.
3 halves?! That’s impressive! You’re Scout is a real cutie! 5 miles on those little legs is something!
